Call for Papers

The ISA RC28 invites contributions to its annual spring conference to be held in Budapest, Hungary, 8-10 May 2014. The RC28 Budapest meeting is a general academic conference – we expect contributions on the broad theme of social inequalities, social stratification and social mobility – but papers relevant to the core topic of the conference, ‘Old and new social divides: social stratification research in the 21th century’, are particularly welcome.

Participants should submit an extended abstract (2-4 pages) for one of the following sessions:

  1. Educational inequalities
  2. School to work transitions
  3. Intergenerational social mobility
  4. Career mobility and other life-course issues
  5. Marriage, family, divorce, fertility
  6. Gender, work/family reconciliation
  7. Labour market inequalities, unemployment, underemployment
  8. Income and economic inequalities
  9. Poverty
  10. Economic crisis and its consequences for social inequalities
  11. Inequalities, welfare state, social policy
  12. Cultural consumption and life-style
  13. Political participation and elections
  14. Networks and social capital
  15. Immigration and ethnic inequalities
  16. Subjective well-being
  17. Health inequalities
  18. Methodological challenges

The extended abstract should include a clear description of research questions, theoretical framework, data, analytical strategy and main findings. All submitted contributions will be subject to a peer review process.

You should make your submission(s) online, using the ‘How to submit’ link on this website. You are asked to enter the title(s) of your submission(s), along with the names of the authors and their institutional affiliations. You are also asked to upload the extended abstract in Microsoft Word or PDF format. Finally, you are asked to select a session of your preference from those listed above, and indicate whether you would like to present a paper or a poster. The deadline for submission is 01 December 2013. First authors will be notified about the outcomes of their submissions by 22 January 2014.

RC28 Membership
