Welcome

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite hand surgeons and hand therapists to the 12th Instructional Course on Reconstructive Hand Surgery in Tetraplegia.

This three-day course provides a comprehensive overview of current concepts in the surgical reconstruction and rehabilitation of the upper extremity in people with tetraplegia. It combines lectures, practical training, and case discussions.

Who should attend?

The course is designed for:

  • Hand Surgeons who want to gain knowledge and technical skills in surgical reconstruction of the upper limb in tetraplegia
  • Physiotherapists and Occupational therapists who want to improve their understanding of surgical treatment options and strengthen their skills in the assessment and rehabilitation of patients undergoing reconstructive surgery.

Course topics

  • Clinical assessment and examination
  • suture technique
  • reconstruction of elbow extension
  • reconstruction of grip and grasp
  • reconstruction of intrinsic hand function
  • nerve transfers
  • new developments
  • spasticity management
  • postoperative rehabilitation
  • case discussions

Our aim is to provide a solid foundation in the principles and techniques of reconstructive surgery, while also presenting recent developments and current approaches to postoperative rehabilitation.

A key feature of the course is the hands-on practical training. Surgeons will spend a full day practicing reconstructive procedures on cadavers. In parallel, therapists will work on clinical assessment, rehabilitation strategies, and splint fabrication.

Beyond the scientific and practical aspects, the course also offers an opportunity to meet colleagues, exchange experiences, and build an international professional network – while enjoying a glimpse of the beautiful Canton of Lucerne.

We look forward to welcoming you to Lucerne!
